Adam Kos The Mapy.cz application is a very popular domestic competition for Google Maps i Apple Maps. Behind it is Seznam, which tries to keep up with the competition thanks to numerous updates that improve the functions of the mobile application. Here are the biggest news that have recently arrived or are yet to arrive at Mapy.cz.
Adding photos from the Wikimedia database
Places that have not yet been photographed in Maps will be newly added with content from Wikimedia. It simply means that you can easily get an overview of your point of interest, wherever it is.
It's hard to get an idea of what the place looks like without photos or videos. 🤔

Payment option labels
Contactless payments are already the order of the day for us, in such a way that even our technology - phones and watches - handle them without problems. However, not all merchants accept cards, which have decreased a lot especially in the COVID era. Mapy.cz now displays shields in the details of the place, which clearly inform you whether it is possible to pay by card at the given place.
You wished you could arrange the places in My Maps the way you like. Newly, in Maps, you will find several options for sorting them. Either alphabetically or by date of addition. 💚

My Maps
If you like to plan ahead before you go somewhere, you can have quite a mess in your saved routes. These routes are saved in the My Maps tab, which could not be sorted in any way. However, this has recently changed and you can now sort them alphabetically, by the date they were added or even by distance from your current location.

New map backgrounds
Mapy.cz offers several options for displaying map materials. As for the aviation ones, in addition to those from the provider Topgis, the application also includes those from the Czech Land Surveying and Cadastral Office. The advantage is that the provider can change them more often than before. Currently, there are these maps from more than half of the Czech Republic from 2022, and the central part of the republic is even supposed to be from last year.
We have slightly more up-to-date aerial photos of the Czech Republic, thanks to new documents from ČÚZK, at the same time we can change them even more often than before. 💚

Premium version
The application and its use are and will be free, but it is expected that features will soon be available for a fee. The premium version is intended to focus on more advanced options, more detailed informationmacBut we don't have it yet. The question is what kind of features it will have and how much Seznam will charge for them. The reveal should happen this year.

As long as people can use Mapy.cz without paying and without consenting to the use of personal data for targeted advertising, without the need to register their own account, it is usable and has a chance to survive. Otherwise, people will go elsewhere. Similar to the portal itself Seznam.cz – people used to go there out of habit, but since the introduction of payment or consent to the use of personal data for targeted advertising, I don't go there at all. Seznam.cz ceased to exist for me.
