There are actually a lot of applications that provide some kind of map data and some form of navigation. We have Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, Sygic and also the extremely popular Mapy.cz in our region. But forget about this name, we will now call it Mapy.com.

As the press release says: "The popular map application Mapy.cz is entering a new, global era." And the global era, of course, also needs a global domain. Instead of .cz, we will now have .com. But this is only a visual change, or rather the one in the name, although of course it will still be Maps by Seznam.

Changing the domain itself to Mapy.com will not have any effect on the functioning of the application. It will be miniminor modification that the average user may not even recognize. The application is intended to become more accessible to users from all over the world, while continuing to improve the quality and user comfort that Czech users are accustomed to. However, they also benefit from this.

Expanding navigation in Europe

Full navigation including traffic data is already available in Slovakia, Poland, Austria and Germany. It will soon be available in Slovenia, Hungary and Italy. Users can easily get from Prague to the Alps or Lake Balaton, for example. In addition, drivers from these countries can help obtain data on traffic, accidents, closures and can report police patrols.

Maps.com in Apple Watch

Maps.com is currently available for Apple Watch, with application version 6.51.0 (for Apple Watch it is necessary to use at least watchOS 10). But you only get two functions on your wrist. The first is Tracker, with which you can track your activity. The second is Navigation. However, it is not voice-activated, but only haptic and does not display a map, but only an arrow in which direction you should go.

Using Maps.com in Apple Watch It is also tied to a subscription, so if you buy the premium version of Maps for 249 Kč If you don't subscribe annually, you won't enjoy the features. Of course, it can be assumed that they will be expanded and improved over time, but the restriction of the need for a subscription is somewhat unpleasant.

Offline maps

Offline map management will also be improved. Soon, Mapy.com will offer a clearer selection of offline areas for foreign regions. The user will be able to simply select the desired area directly from the map. You can still download an offline map of one country, including regions, for free. And you can change the selected country at any time according to your travel plans.

Other premium features

Premium supporters of the application, i.e. those who pay the aforementioned 249 Kč annually, they will also have the option of more precise route planning by choosing a specific activity – for example, running, gravel biking, walking with a stroller or riding a scooter. There is also the option of planning walking routes over via ferratas.
