Apple pays for a company that can bring the latest features to even very old phones. This was due to his exemplary update policy, which was unrivaled until recently. But now it hits. Apple it is no longer the leader in support or features. AI is to blame.
Google said last year with its Pixel 8 that it would give them 7 years of support with updates to the new Android. In January of this year, Samsung equaled it in this regard with its Galaxy S24 series, when it followed it up with the summer folding Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Then last week Google introduced the Pixel 9 and again they have 7 years of updates.
In the world of Android, this is a clear trend set by the biggest players (Google, not in hardware, but certainly in software). The smaller ones may or may not catch on, which will of course be a competitive advantage for the big ones. There is, of course, the question of what the current hardware will still be able to do in 7 years and if there will even be any spare parts available for a 7-year-old phone. We know it works at Apple, so why can't it work elsewhere.
Circle to Search
At least Google and Samsung in this one Apple so they called. They will also bring system updates to older devices. But Samsung has an even lower portfolio in the form of the Galaxy A series. It promises "only" 4 years of system updates and 5 years of security, which is still great in the Android world. And even its last year's phones will get an artificial intelligence function.
Circle to Search is a Google feature, but Samsung has adopted it as its own. If it gave the Galaxy AI package to the flagships from 2022, at least it provided Circle to Search to those from 2021. And to make matters worse, it also gives this artificial intelligence function to this year's higher A's in the form of the Galaxy A35 and A55, when it also does so for last year's, i.e. Galaxy A34 and A54. Thus, the phone will have artificial intelligence for search for 6 CZK.
Has Apple still time?
Apple Intelligence will not be released until iOS 18.1 sometime in October. Apple previously reported that it would only be available for iPhone 15 Pro in the current portfolio. However, since Circle to Search is about searching and dependent on the connection, in the end it does not have such demands on the hardware, so it can also work on devices with worse hardware. So why can't he do something like that Apple? But he can!
On one side Apple we rightly criticize it for its hardware claims for its AI, but we don't even have a released system that will include it yet. Even Samsung originally stated that Galaxy AI would only get to last year's flagships, eventually found out that it could be even further back in history and not just to flagships at all.
Since hope is the last to die, it's still possible that Apple also understand that certain functions Apple Intelligence can run without problems even on older and worse hardware than the current iPhone 15 Pro. We'll just have to wait for that announcement. And if it comes, the company will surely be hailed as the best in support again.
You're celebrating something that hasn't happened yet. We'll see in 7 years. 😉
What does "circle to search" have to do with Ai? I've been using Google lens for years, it's just a little easier here. But obviously, Samsung and Google are giving absolutely everything for "Ai".
It doesn't really matter what a zero like you thinks about it, the important thing is that it works and Apple is not difficult to catch.
Apple that's okay, it's not just IT editors. One of the small functions that needs powerful HW for AI and 8Gb of memory is the offline translator. With weaker mobiles, I will only have it online. There's no reason not to Apple acted differently.
