Jiří Filip Apple published details about security updates for macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.9 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9. And it turns out that these are no ordinary patches. They fix a serious flaw in the Screen Sharing feature that an attacker could exploit to access a computer without knowing the correct login details.
The vulnerability concerned the Screen Sharing function, which allows remote control Mac over a local network or the Internet. Due to an error in authentication management, an attacker could connect without valid credentials in certain situations. Apple fixed the issue by modifying the authentication mechanism and recommends that all users install the update as soon as possible.
The good news is that, according to AppThere is no evidence yet that the bug is being actively exploited. However, it is a vulnerability that security experts describe as very serious because it could potentially allow unauthorized remote access to a computer.
Updates are available for all three supported versions macOSIf you haven't installed them yet, you can do so in System Settings → General → Software Update. This time, it's not about new features or minor improvements, but a security patch that you definitely shouldn't delay.
