Have you found your Mac's lock screen a little boring? That changed with the arrival of macOS Sonoma. Now you can decorate your Mac's lock screen with impressive moving screensavers. How to select, set and customize them?
Screensavers on Macs running macOS Sonoma can now be matched with the lock screen wallpaper. Both of these elements are dynamic. Once you unlock your Mac and sign in, the moving screen saver will seamlessly change to a beautiful static wallpaper.
How to enable dynamic lock screen wallpapers on a Mac with macOS Sonoma
Selecting a screen saver is the same as selecting a wallpaper. Animated screensavers are labeled so you can distinguish them from regular desktop wallpapers. Here's how to set a moving screen saver and lock screen wallpaper on Mac.
- In the upper-left corner of your Mac screen, click menu -> System settings.
- In the left part of the settings window, click on Wallpaper.
- Browse through the savers/wallpapers categories and select an image with a play symbol on it - that's how you'll recognize a dynamic wallpaper.
- Click to select the saver and wait a moment for it to load.
You can choose to make it the screen saver and desktop background, or just the background. As with wallpapers, there are several categories of screensavers to choose from. If you don't want to focus on a single spot, you can choose from the Shuffle aerial shots category at the bottom of the window. You can also choose how often you want the screensaver to change, every 12 hours, a day, two days, a week, a month, or continuously.
