In addition to new video conferencing features like reactions, macOS Sonoma offers Center Stage options that let you control how you present yourself to the world—as long as you have the right camera.
Center Stage on Mac is exactly what it was on iPad. If you choose to have it on, you'll find that when you're in a video call and reach out of frame for a coffee, the camera will automatically move — seemingly so. Other call participants will simply see you in the center of the action when Center Stage is activated, as your webcam image will automatically adjust to show the best framing.
To use Center Stage in macOS Sonoma, you need a Mac with a processor Apple Silicon and an integrated webcam, or Continuity in the camera on iPhone 12 and later. The Center Stage icon now appears on menu bar at the top of the screen of your Mac - it's about icon with computer and person symbol. During a FaceTime call, click this icon and select Centering the shot, or click the arrow to the right of Centering Shot to see other options available to you – in some cases, this might be a wide-angle shot. These options always depend on the camera you are using.
