With the escalation of insider network threats, Network Detection and Response (NDR) is becoming increasingly important, but high costs and requirements for specialized equipment prevent its widespread adoption in many small and medium-sized businesses. QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading innovator in computing, networking, and storage solutions, today announced the release of ADRA NDR Standalone (Beta) – a free NDR software application that can be deployed directly on QNAP NAS systems. By eliminating licensing fees and special hardware requirements, QNAP makes proactive internal network protection and real-time incident response significantly more accessible to organizations of all sizes.

“Firewalls and endpoint protection are still essential, but once threats start to spread laterally across the network, they provide limited visibility,” said Rebecca Yen, Product Manager at QNAP, adding, “NDR addresses this gap, but its implementation is hampered by cost and complexity. ADRA NDR Standalone removes these barriers and allows organizations to deploy NDR directly on existing NAS and network infrastructure – without licensing fees or specialized hardware – while leveraging automation and AI-based analytics to reduce incident analysis and response efforts.”

Main features of QNAP ADRA NDR Standalone

  • Low entry barrier, fast deployment: ADRA NDR Standalone is available for free download from QNAP App Center and can be installed on supported QNAP NAS devices. Combined with compatible QNAP switches, organizations can deploy NDR without the need to purchase additional security devices or pay for recurring licenses.
  • Effective selective packet filtering: The application uses selective analysis of suspicious packets instead of full traffic scanning to maintain high throughput while detecting lateral movement and unusual internal connections in the network.
  • Threat detection and automatic device isolation: It simulates common network services (e.g. SSH and SMB) as decoys to expose hidden threats. Once risky behavior is identified, affected devices can be automatically isolated based on protection policies to prevent attacks without disrupting overall operations.
  • Artificial intelligence-powered analysis and clear reporting: It provides two types of reports – AI-powered threat event analysis and overall security overview, translating complex network behavior into clear risk summaries, visualized connection paths, and suggested mitigations so IT teams can quickly understand threat patterns.
  • Integration with QNAP storage for accelerated recovery: After an attack is stopped, organizations can leverage QNAP NAS snapshots and backup mechanisms to quickly restore systems and data, thereby miniThey minimize downtime and impact on operations.
