Adam Kos DJI defined a whole new category with its Osmo Pocket model series years ago. Pocket cameras with mechanical stabilization immediately conquered vloggers, influencers and creatives across the planet. In 2026, the fourth generation, DJI Osmo Pocket 4, is coming to the scene. Although it visually follows the proven concept of its predecessors, under the hood it hides a fundamental shift in image quality, a revolution in the form of internal memory and significantly better ergonomics.
Structurally, it is again an elegant elongated device that you can easily hide in your trouser pocket. The surface knurling ensures a sure and secure grip. Creators with larger hands will undoubtedly appreciate the included extension grip with a standard 1/4″ tripod thread, from which the camera can be disconnected in literally a second thanks to the quick-release mechanism.
- Physical dimensions and weight: 144,2 mm × 44,4 mm × 33,5 mm; 190,5 g (it has gained slightly between generations, but in practice you won't notice the difference)
The controls have undergone a fundamental transformation. The new 5D joystick excels in precise accuracy and is complemented by a pair of function keys directly below the screen.
- The left button is used for quick focus switching (zooming).
- The right button responds to one, two or three presses (selecting modes or locking the gimbal), while holding it down will bring up user settings.
In older models, the directional pad was sometimes uncomfortable to use and you had to resort to touching the small screen. However, the new 5D joystick has a perfect physical response. Together with two new keys, you can operate the entire device with one hand without having to shield your fingers from the frame when using the touch controls.

Rotating screen and audio recording
The centerpiece of the device is a 2″ rotating touchscreen with a resolution of 556 × 314 px. A practical detail is the mechanical trigger – just gently press the lower right corner, the panel rotates to landscape and the camera is immediately activated for filming. The maximum brightness reaches 1,000 nits, which is sufficient for normal outdoor use, although readability may be slightly weaker in direct midday sunlight. The audio track is taken care of by three integrated microphones. The primary one is placed directly below the display towards the author, which guarantees clear speech when vlogging.
Powerful stabilizer and magnetic light diode
Despite its pocket-sized dimensions, the three-axis gimbal offers uncompromising parameters:
- Maximum positioning speed: 180° per second
- Stabilization accuracy (angular vibration): only ±0,005°
- Range of motion: pan -235° to 58°, tilt -120° to 70° and roll -45° to 45°
The back of the stabilization head has fins for more efficient cooling and magnetic pins for additional lighting. The included magnetic LED light allows for angle adjustment and has two switches. These can be used to regulate the brightness in three levels (12, 25 and 40 lux) and change the color temperature (2800 K, 4000 K and 5500 K). The light is great for brightening up darker scenes, but due to its small size it can appear quite spotty and sharp.

The gimbal head itself is protected by a magnetic cap that you have to remove before the action. Unfortunately, this case no longer fits additional filters or a wide-angle lens. These accessories must be carried separately in a bag, which increases the risk of losing them. In addition, before putting on the protective case, you have to remove both the additional light and the wide-angle lens from the gimbal, which can be a bit of a delay in fast-paced situations. However, if you are not using these accessories, getting ready for work is a breeze.
The idea of a magnetic light mounted directly on the head is great and is more than enough for handheld evening shooting. However, from close range it can be slightly dazzling even at the lowest intensity, and since it is a small light source, it creates quite significant shadows behind the figure.
Thumb sensor and professional colors
The basis of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is a proven 1″ CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and a wide-angle lens with a focal length equivalent of 20 mm (capable of focusing from 20 cm to infinity). The physical resolution of the chip is around 12 MPx (derived from the formats 3840×2160 in 16:9 and 3072×3072 in a 1:1 ratio), which means that the processor does not use the entire sensor area at once. However, thanks to advanced interpolation algorithms, the Pocket 4 can take still images with a resolution of up to 37 MPx (in 16:9 it is 7680 × 4320 px, in 1:1 then 6144 × 6144 px), which will surprise with the amount of detail.
In the area of video, the new product brings the following key innovations:
- Full 10-bit D-Log: Pocket 4 finally offers a completely flat D-Log profile (instead of the previous compromise D-Log M), which brings enormous freedom for color corrections in post-production.
- Extreme slow-motion: It can shoot at up to 240 frames per second in 4K resolution (however, flat color profiles including D-Log are not available in this mode).
- Lossless cropping: The camera has up to four times digital zoom in 4K. While at 4x there is already a noticeable drop in detail, the two-time zoom is absolutely clear and perfectly usable because it works with a 1:1 crop from the sensor.
- Improved night mode: Allows recording in 4K at 30 fps, while the ISO sensitivity range for poor lighting conditions has climbed to values of 50 to 25600 (standard video and photo modes end at ISO 12800).
The autofocus system responds instantly, but the greatest praise is given to object tracking. The new version of the ActiveTrack 7.0 algorithm easily keeps people, cars, motorcycles or pets in the frame, even with the 4x zoom turned on. Double-tap the display to lock the selected target, while the electronics give priority to a specific face even in a crowded space. There is also contactless gesture control - show your palm to activate ActiveTrack, then lift your fingers in a V shape to start or stop recording. For quick publishing without the need to color on a computer, Film Tone image profiles are prepared, which are inspired by popular film simulations (e.g. from Fujifilm).

Goodbye, full memory cards and dead batteries
This improvement is a complete breakthrough for everyday use. The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 has 107 GB of fast integrated storage with a write and read speed of up to 800 MB/s. In reality, this means that you can copy approximately 10 GB of captured material to your computer in less than 15 seconds. The only condition is that the camera must be turned on during the transfer. You can of course also insert a classic microSD card into the body, but the storage and reading speed in this case will be limited by the parameters of the medium itself.
The ability to just grab your camera and start shooting without constantly checking to make sure you have a blank, fast enough card is incredibly freeing. Dragging and dropping data into Macvia interface USB-C also happens almost instantly. You will get used to the absence of a microSD card in normal operation extremely quickly.

On a single charge, the device can record up to 240 minutes of 1080p video at 24 frames per second. Thanks to the support ultra-fast charging will recharge the battery from 0 to 80% in just 18 minutes. In real-world use and switching between 4K/60 fps and 4K/120 fps for slow-motion footage, the camera can easily operate for over two hours. The rear cooling fins dissipate waste heat so effectively that the body of the device does not get uncomfortably hot even during longer handheld shots. The device can also be powered while in operation, making it a great tool for live streaming.
The DJI Mimo companion app is key to fully utilizing all of the features. It turns your smartphone display into a wireless preview monitor, allowing you to easily fine-tune composition, trigger recording, or manage advanced settings. For more demanding multi-camera projects, you'll be pleased to know that the Pocket 4 can be synchronized using timecode, making it easy to integrate into a professional production chain.
